The Miami Heat took a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference Final series with the Celtics, overcoming a career-best 44 points from Boston's Rajon Rondo.
Some would argue they had help.
This was exactly the sort of game that will have fans - Boston fans in particularly - crying "fix!" The free-throw disparity in the game was enormous. LeBron James had 24 attempts from the line; the entire Celtic team had 27. Three Celtics - Paul Pierce, Mickael Pietrus and Keyon Dooling - fouled out of the game. But Rondo didn't get a foul call on a crucial play in the final two minutes of overtime, even after he was whacked in the face by Dwyane Wade while attempting a layup. The Heat recovered the ball and Udonis Haslem converted a layup at the other end, giving Miami a lead they'd never relinquish.
I tend to favor "incompetence" over "conspiracy" as an explanation for uneven officiating... but games like last night's would make anyone wonder.
The action shifts to Boston for Games Three and Four, this Friday and Sunday.
