The Nets aren't getting Dwight Howard. Plan B is apparently... Gerald Wallace?
New Jersey will reportedly trade the expiring contact of injured center Mehmet Okur, Shawne Williams and a protected first-round draft pick to the Trail Blazers for forward Gerald Wallace.
This seems like a very risky move for the Nets. Wallace is a good - maybe even great - player. But he's a complementary piece, not the sort who will help convince Deron Williams to sign long-term with the team. Giving up valuable trade assets in a deal for Wallace seems like a, "Hey Deron, look! We're making progress!" move... sort of like the Cavaliers' too-little, too-late acquisition of Antawn Jamison right before LeBron James hit the open market.
Lakers Acquire Ramon Sessions
The Lakers will reportedly acquire point guard Ramon Sessions from the Cavaliers, along with small forward Christian Eyenga, for a 2012 first-round draft pick and Luke Walton's expiring deal.
Sessions represents a pretty significant upgrade over anyone else the Lakers have used in the backcourt with Kobe Bryant this season, a sort-of poor man's Tony Parker who excels at breaking down defenses off the dribble. His jump shot, though, is highly suspect.
The Lakers might not be done. There are numerous reports that they are interested in Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley as well.
