At one point, Terrence Jones was regarded as a potential top-ten pick. But as players like Dion Waiters and Terrence Ross shot up draft boards, Jones' stock fell.
Jones is an excellent athlete and above-average defender with the ability to shoot from the outside or drive to the basket. But some general managers had reservations about his size - at 6-9 and 250 lbs, he may be a bit too slow to play the three and too small to play the four - and his consistency.
For the Rockets, he could end up playing a role similar to that of Chase Budinger, who was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves this week.
Jones is the third Kentucky Wildcat to be selected in the first round of the draft; teammates Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist went with the first and second overall selections.
