And we have our first surprise of the night. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist may well be the second-best player in this draft, but most observers expected the Bobcats - coming off an historically-bad season - to select a player that would help more on offense such as Kansas power forward Thomas Robinson.
Kidd-Gilchrist - MKG, to his fans - isn't much of an offensive threat at this stage of his career. But he's a high-energy player with the ability to defend four positions who will give the Bobcats' defense an immediate boost.
Optimistic projections suggest Kidd-Gilchrist could develop into a Scottie Pippen-type player, which certainly must have appealed to Bobcats owner Michael Jordan.
