A talented lead guard, Tony Wroten led the Washington Huskies to the Pac-12 regular-season title while averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists, winning conference freshman of the year honors in the process. Wroten may have hurt his draft stock with a rough postseason; he struggled badly during the NIT, shooting just 34 percent from the floor.
Of course, he certainly wouldn't be the first guard to succeed in the NBA despite a suspect jump shot... Rajon Rondo and Tony Parker faced similar criticism when they were drafted, and John Wall shot just seven percent from three last season.
His selection could be insurance against the possibility that the Grizzlies will have to trade Mike Conley Jr., to free up salary lest the big contracts of Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph and Rudy Gay push them into luxury-tax territory.
