After adding Jared Sullinger with the 21st overall pick, Danny Ainge brought in even more size by selecting Syracuse center Fab Melo 22nd overall.
Melo developed into the anchor of one of the NCAA's top defenses last season, and was the leading rebounder on a team that spent much of the season ranked in the top ten. Academic problems forced him to leave the team before the NCAA Tournament.
Like the Sullinger pick, this one is something of a gamble for Ainge. Melo has lots of potential, but it's not at all certain that his game will translate from Syracuse's 2-3 zone to NBA-style defenses. At the very least, he'll give the C's another big body to throw at opposition frontcourts.
