No Olympics for Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade has removed his name from consideration for the 2012 men's Olympic basketball team. The all-star guard and 2008 gold medalist will have surgery to correct knee problems that plagued him for much of this season. He made the following statement via USA Basketball:

While every part of me wants to be in London, I need to take this time to do what's best to improve my health and allow me to continue to play the game I love. It was an honor to represent my country in 2004 and in 2008 when we won the gold medal. My thoughts and best wishes will travel with Team USA as they prepare to bring home the gold.

Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Deron Williams and Russell Westbrook are likely to be the top four guards on the Dream Team's roster. Wade's absence could open the door for James Harden to make the team - Harden was added to the preliminary Olympic roster in May, after Derrick Rose's knee injury, and is accustomed to coming off the bench. Or, USA Basketball could opt for a shooter like Eric Gordon.
